Introduction

"Involvement in the community is fundamental to Snedden Hall & Gallop's approach in doing business.  We believe that private, government and the not for profit sectors can work together to improve the living conditions of all Canberrans and assist those at the grass roots.....after all, we live and work in the same community, so we're happy to pitch in".  Richard Faulks, Managing Director

For many years, Snedden Hall & Gallop Directors, staff and friends have rolled up our sleeves and contributed financial, human and professional resources to a variety of local programs.

Our Community Ties Are Strong

In 1961, the founding partners of our firm, Norm Snedden, Allan Hall and John Gallop commenced a legal practice from small offices in East Row, Civic. Their strengths were in commercial and business work, land transactions, and acting for the underdog in all Courts and Tribunals in Canberra.

They established a culture of hard work, camaraderie and care for the disadvantaged, which survives to this day. The present directors of Snedden Hall & Gallop Richard Faulks, Bill Andrews, Dennis Martin and Gerald Santucci recognise our roots are in the Canberra community, and are committed to giving something back to the people who have supported us.

A Rich History

The culture of community involvement at Snedden Hall & Gallop has evolved over many years.  Some of the ACT regions' most famous initiatives were developed as a result of our contribution with other local key stakeholders. For example:

The Great Tower Race

Snedden Hall & Gallop co-ordinated for 7 years the crazy idea of climbing stairs to the top of Telstra Tower, located on Black Mountain, Canberra's tallest mountain. All money raised was donated to Arthritis ACT and involved students from Canberra University who assisted with the organisation of the day.

The Canberra Tram

In the early 1990's, the Government of the day decided to trial a public transport system using a Tram within the Canberra CBD.  Snedden Hall & Gallop were the first and only sponsor of this successful initiative and reflected the deep roots Snedden Hall & Gallop have established since 1960 in the Canberra and surrounding region.

Making Community Ties That Count

Disability Sports Day for ACT Schools

Each year, over 1000 disabled students and their carers enjoy a day of fun and sport at the AIS track. Snedden Hall & Gallop lawyers and administrative staff are there every year to conduct the shot-put competition, the barbeque and cook 100’s of sausages for  these hungry athletes.

University Scholarship in Legal Studies

Every year for the past 7 years we have awarded two exemplary ACT college students  a $6000  scholarship over 3 years of University study here in Canberra. All winners have the opportunity to work as paralegals in our office, and possible employment opportunities at the conclusion of their studies. Nicholas Tebbey and Graeme Gunn were two winners of the scholarship program who are now employed by Snedden Hall & Gallop as lawyers.

Legal Studies Secondary School Prize

Snedden Hall & Gallop provide speech night awards for students excelling in Legal Studies in over 12 secondary colleges in Canberra. Our association with the colleges also provides the colleges with access to our lawyers for presentations and information about starting a legal career.

Fundraising to Beat Breast Cancer

We devote our staff charity fundraising activities to Bosom Buddies and the ACT Cancer Council.Whether it’s the 24 hour Relay-for-Life event to raise money or fundraising for Daffodil Day, our efforts are enthusiastically supported by the whole team.

A Helping Hand for our Local Tri-Athlete in Pursuit of National Ironman Glory

In May 2008, Snedden Hall & Gallop announced its renewal of sponsorship for local tri-athlete Kirra Rankin. This is the second year that Snedden Hall & Gallop have provided financial assistance to Ms Rankin in her quest for ironman glory.

This support will greatly assist Kirra to prepare for several ironman events including the Gold Coast Half Ironman in October, the Canberra Half Ironman in December, and 2009 Australian Ironman Championships held in Port Macquarie in April 2009, consisting of a 3.8km swim, 180km bike ride and 42km run.

Kirra is an extremely fit and motivated young woman who has impressed Snedden Hall & Gallop with her passion for her sport and her notions of a healthy lifestyle.
